Well since I am totally bored at the moment, I thought I'd bring furniture into the Art forum for some diversity.
Why did danish modern and teak furniture become so covetable? I feel like I used to see this stuff everywhere and no one wanted anything to do with it. I actually do appreciate it more now, now that my taste as expanded throughout the years but the prices at those stores in the LES? What are they doing??
I still have a huge softspot for heavy, dark stained pieces from the 30s and back. Some of these pieces have such a prsence, it is almost like they have a soul. Those tall buffets with the inlaid oval faceted mirror and the two doors on the front with a floral motif carving, they give me a warm and cozy feeling and they make such an impact in a room. Or tall art deco dressers where the top curves down into the drawer portion and each drawer has two pieces of wood, where the woodgrains are mirrored by a seam down the middle. True design and function.
Great antiques make me happy. When they're affordable, it's even better.
