vLES update @

24 June, 2008 @ 2:25 PM
The vLES has been in what computer nerds call an "alpha test" for a bit now, which is basically a fancy greek way of saying a "trial run to work out the bugs, see what works, see what doesn't, and generally just figure stuff out." We’ve learned a lot, saw a lot of great shows, and met some amazing people along the way (this includes you, in case you feel left out).

Modrocket @

20 June, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
While most 16-year-olds are worrying about signing yearbooks, popping zits, and tongue wrestling, the four young ladies who comprise Modrocket are writing gems that could be mistaken for early 70s garage rock made by Amazons. Then you see them in the flesh and understand how much you got screwed in the little sister department. Come find out what all the fuss is about for yourself tonight at Virtual Cake Shop.

Matt and Kim @

16 June, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
Do you like to dance like you're a spastic with a penchant for New Wave, bombastic beats, and fuzzy, blown-out keyboards? Well good, because every show Matt & Kim play turns into a sweaty, neon- coated near-orgy that will leave you simultaneously exhausted and elated. So make sure to stop by virtual Cake Shop tonight and let this duo's pop anthems gyrate you to ecstasy.

's music makes you feel like you've been wandering the forest for days, munching on mushrooms of the magical variety. And that's not surprising considering the band just released an album of skull-opening, vocoded synthpop inspired by long camping trips and wonderfully deranged ghost stories they even recorded it in a shack in the woods. Catch them tonight at Virtual Cake Shop.

Chk Chk Chk. Ding Dong Dangle. Orangutan Anal Anniversary. However you decide to pronounce this band's name is OK by its members. What's not OK is standing still at one of its shows, especially the one tonight at virtual Cake Shop.

The Black Lips @

10 June, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
It's a relief to see them playing on the Lower East Side because as of a few months ago they were banned from playing in just about every bar and club down here, even the Merc. This was due to what we call the Black Lips quirks and eccentricities but what some people (squares) might call pissing into their own mouths on stage, making out with each other, and spraying so much beer around that it looks like it's raining. But true love conquers all and the Black Lips love playing their garage punk disaster songs and so they are back, via sheer force of will, on the LES and now the VLES.

The Horrors @

09 June, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
Any band that inspired Chris Cunningham to come out of his seven year hiatus has to be a bunch of certified weirdos. But regardless of their Addams Family-meets-Ramones sense of style, the Horrors offer much more than an image. Strange House, the debut album released earlier this year, is packed to the coffin lid

The Virgins @

01 June, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
Don't believe their namesake, these guys drop funky, angular grooves that are so sexy there's no way they haven't gotten any yet. In fact, when we threw a vLES party at the real Cake Shop with Matt & Kim headlining, the Virgins had so many swooners we had to stay late and mop up the fresh coat of bodily emissions from the floor.

Gang Gang Dance @

31 May, 2008 @ 8:00 PM
Come by the virtual Annex tonight if having your soul penetrated by a coalescence of rhythm, weird electronics, and Impressionistic chants sounds appealing.
